About CHAA
Community Health for Asian Americans (CHAA) is a community based provider of behavioral health, youth development, and family support services to the historically underserved multicultural communities of the SF East Bay. Strengthened by a diverse professional staff with roots in the Asian Pacific Islander community, CHAA provides services in clinics, schools, at home and in the community. Services are delivered by highly trained culturally competent staff. CHAA provides leadership in partnership with youth in community organizing, advocacy, and social systems transformation in the Bay Area. Together with key partner organizations, CHAA is able to listen to the needs of the greater Bay Area communities, with a specialization in and a focus on the API community, to respond quickly and effectively with appropriate services.
CHAA provides a variety of services in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. The CHAA Richmond site offers children’s and youth mental health services in our outpatient clinic and on school grounds in the West Contra Costa County Unified School District; co-occurring mental health/alcohol and other drugs treatment for adolescents; wraparound services for children and families; the Juvenile Drug Court treatment services in partnership with juvenile court, probation and the public defender; Health and Wellness promotion and clinical services co-located at the RYSE Youth Center and a variety of youth focused primary prevention programs and research initiatives.
Internship Program
Interns and Trainees at CHAA receive weekly individual supervision (one hour/week) and group supervision (1.5-2.0 hours/week) provided by a licensed LCSW or licensed MFT. In addition, they attend regularly scheduled in-service and training opportunities.
Interns and trainees at CHAA provide individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, case management, and collateral work as indicated by the client’s treatment plan. They will also utilize web-based tools to engage CHAA’s target populations and to provide online information, resources and support.
Credit for hours toward licensure under the Board of Behavioral Sciences for MFT and LCSW is available and should be verified with CHAA and the BBS upon your application.
